Help - knee swelling

Hi All

Still waiting for the vet - so maybe you can help.

Friday afternoon noticed Laredo was having a problem - front left knee.
About 1 inch down from the top of the knee, to the outside was an inch long
swelling, running left to right. Feels like it was between the forearm (?)
bone and the next bone down in the knee. Put him in a stall for the evening
because we've got small, but steep hill in back yard. Yesterday a.m. the
knee swelled from the top to the bottom, mostly on the outside. Today, no
change, except it has swelled slightly more. Have been icing/watering him
pretty regularly, bute twice daily to help with swelling. At a walk he has
no obvious limp or pain. There is no twisting or favoring either-although I
only allow him to walk with me next to the barn where there is grass for him
to graze while I water him.

Do you have any idea what he did? Should I change what I'm doing? Put
him in the round pen?

Thanks for your anticipated responses. In other words "HELP". :)
