Re: RC: Excessive Urination?

Right, I wouldn't want to give him antibiotics and disrupt his system if he
turns out he didn't need it. Bob doesn't compete with Tavi, but we do go on
2-3 hour trail rides - and Tavi usually stops to pee about 2-3 times during the
ride and once when we get back. We don't give him anything except for a very
watered down, teeny amount of beet pulp and all-in-one (so he doesn't feel left
out when Harley gets fed his supplements). There's a photo of him at
http://home.pacbell.net/thumper4/pix/tavi/tavi09.jpg - one of the other
'unusual' thing he does is the way he tilts his head when he's looking at
something around to the side of his vision (which you can see in the photo)..
which is I think due to the placement of his eyes being more forward than other
horses. Just to make sure it's not neck-joint-out-of-whack related we're
having Dr. Ridgeway come and look at him next weekend. His full brother does
the same head tilt.

One of my Welsh ponies is an excessive drinker/urinater. He goes through
more water and bedding than any horse I've ever seen. (yes he's out on
pasture, makes a special trip to the shed to use bedding). His urine is
as clear as water, and he will go while you're riding him even if you
only ride him 30 min. He's also a very easy keeper, and is trying to get
obese on nothing but hay. A friend who's a vet said he may just like to
drink a lot. He's never competed, so I don't know what affect it will
have, but looking at him I wonder about his thyroid. I'd skip the
antibiotics idea. That sounds like a local vet we have who'll just tell
you anything to make you go away for awhile.
