Re: RC: Re: Re:Tevis

How many riders from California *started* the ride versus riders from other
states or countries....AND how many out of state/country riders started the
ride on California horses? (hint: most of the entries are from CA...it's
only logical that the majority of the finishers would be from there)

I don't think many people who are talking about having qualifying rides
have any idea how much experience most of the people entering the Tevis DO
have.

If you add up all of the miles of the non finishers and then divide it out,
they have on average--- 1900 miles. (there are a bunch without a lot of
miles but you've got one horse who has done Tevis 6 times and barely shows
in the AERC database because it is a NATRC horse--there is a lot more to
this than saying riders who don't show up in the AERC database or yearbook
need more experience!)

I think that there *is* a correlation in the experience level of the
*horses*. I've got it all input into Exel now. It's very
interesting. You can make a qualifying ride, but unless you require
riders and horses to have more than 500 miles.....it probably wouldn't make
any difference. You wouldn't change the rate of completion, you'd simply
limit the # of entries. 38 horses completed that entered the ride with
less than 500 miles. (it could be more because there are 13 unknown horses
I'm not counting!). That is 30% of the finishers!!!! Some horses entered
the ride having done only one or two one day 100's with 100%
completion. Did you guys know that more people with 100% completion rates
(horse AND rider) were pulled than horses and riders with 100% completion
rates COMPLETED the ride?

Does anybody have any idea how many of the non-finishing horses have
previously done 100's, including the Tevis, Old Dominion, FEI rides,
etc...and didn't complete this year? (I do!)
