Re: feed

Well, I admit to not using the hay scale daily, only with new hay shipments
until I can guess how much a flake weighs. But the concentrates are weighed for
each meal. And when I use alfalfa, I use bagged dehydrated chop, so it's
weighed too.

I do have a very hard time finding someone to feed for me, even though of the 8
horses I say are mine, only one of them, Roo, actually is. The rest belong to
other family members. But I do all of the feeding, care, etc. Even my sister,
who owns 4 of the 8 horses, only feeds for me if I start whining. I just spent
4 days in Vegas, and the instructions I left for my sister were 2 TYPED pages
long. Ah, well. I don't have "real" children, just the four-legged kind.

My sister's horses probably don't like it better now that I care for them,
because I cut their feed back so much, some of them think they're starving.
They hate how often I worm, and one of them thought he couldn't walk without
shoes until I "convinced" him that pasture potatoes have no need for a new set
of shoes every 6 weeks. He thinks I'm evil. I think he's a bigger prima donna
than Roo. The pasture potatoes only get enough grain to hide the vitamins. But
they're all super easy keepers. (ALL ARE FOR SALE! ONE IS A WONDERFUL ARAB
GELDING THAT HAS ALREADY DONE A COUPLE OF 25'S IN GREAT FORM! PLEASE RESCUE ONE
FROM THE NOW INFAMOUS WOODCOCK FEEDING PROGRAM!)

If it sounds like I'm ridiculous about Roo's feed, you should wait and ask me
again in 6 months. The farther "my" broodmare gets in her pregnancy, the more
anal I get about her feed. And I have a feeling that the older she gets (she's
19), the worse I'll be. <G>

But at least you know you are "Anal" about your feeding<grin>.Wow, and my
horses eat hay. Well, I take that back, hay, and some bran or beet pulp when
conditioning and going to rides. Never one to feed much else. if it works,
don't fix it! (my horse says he would love to live with you<grin>) BTW, I
don't weigh hay, just toss it in the corral. Some left over from the
previous meal? Fed too much, the corral vacuumed so clean you can not find
any hay, need to feed a tad more. now, the computer charting of work, shots
and such, I could get into that.
Have a great weekend. (bet it hard for you to find a person to feed your
horse if you go out of town<grin>)
