This is a subject which amuses me as well, because "well-bred on paper" is
indicative of performance and says nothing about temperament.  I have a
Damascus Gate (Northern Dancer line) out of a Jamaico / Royal Affair mare.
In terms of performance, you couldn't ask for better - he's been described
as "bred in the purple".  The problem is that Jamaicos are absolute
bastards, and that is the temperament which has shone through.


When I look at papers, I look out for certain key names which indicate
temperaments I don't want (hot, temperamental, etc) and this means that I
discount certain "well-bred" horses.


Just my 2 cents worth (and no, you can buy nothing with 2 cents)
