RE: RC: RE: Re: Castle Rock Ride/dogs

Yep, I do explain and ask them to call ahead and slow so that we know they
are there! But a few of them are "hit and run". The horses usually know
first, but it helps so that we could figure out why the horses are being
spastic! I actually had a bicyclist come down the hill fast and braked hard
RIGHT BETWEEN OUR TWO HORSES. And we were a little upset and told the guy
he was crazy and he could've been killed. He just got on the bike and told
us he had the right of way and took off. Way uncool and way stupid. Most
of them are real polite and even stop and get off their bikes for us -
there's always the isolated few, just like isolated few rude horseback
riders!

I take it upon myself to talk to the bikers and get
their attention and explain to them that it can be
hard for us to control our horse's instincts, when
something silent and fast comes our way and that
simply talking to us lets our mounts know that they
are people and not to worry. This helps. Don't be
shy. Horse related accidents, as a result of bikers
ignorance, are not pretty and there is a liability
involved.
