Re: information on sarcoids

Hi Kathy,
I have a horse who had a couple of sarcoids. He was four years old when I
got him. He had what looked like a large wart on his chest and a couple of
wart-looking things on his scrotum. The vet advised that if they don't
bother him, don't bother them as sarcoids can get "pissed off" sometimes
when you mess with them.
He kept rubbing the one on his chest when he was in the trailer and it often
became bloody so I opted to have it removed. He was sedated and the sarcoid
was "frozen" off. Took two times to completely remove it and he is now
eleven years old with no adverse effects. He has a lovely white quarter
sized spot where once was the sarcoid.
The ones on his scrotum were removed in a rather unconventional way. A would
be "trainer" was helping me with him and Taj managed to spook and get away
from the trainer pulling the lunge rope which whipped up and around his
belly and when it was all over, the rope had "sliced off the sarcoids and
although he was rather bloody for a few minutes, he was none the worse for
wear. Given the choice, though, I would recommend having the vet take care
of them.
Good luck
Pat
