In the feed stores here, you can buy red block salt, or
red loose salt.

After being a long-time block user (and still am) I now
offer it loose also.

You can approximate the daily consumption by how long the
block lasts (if it's covered). 

If your not sure if the horse needs more than he gets
from a block, get a small shallow feed pan & hang it off the
stall wall and put 3 or 4 oz. at a time in it.
This way you can tell if he eats it or not.
