RC: Rules, Ride Story, and Training

At least you guys have rules!!
Someone cut trail at our ride (Endurance Riders of Alberta, 50 mile)
last weekend and it was determined that nothing could be done about it
because we have no rules. How's that one!? And the unfortunate part is
that we are losing good riders over problems like this one.

I had a great ride. I did a 50 CTR on my gelding and a 25 endurance on
my filly the next day. I did a few CTRs last year and now I am really
excited about riding open. I think I will stay with the CTRs this year,
but my goal is to do the 100 mile endurance!!

I was amazed at how different the two sports are. I found the endurance
far more athletically challenging even though it was half the distance.
I rode the first loop of the CTR and the endurance in the same time (3.5
hrs), but it was the first time I had pushed my filly at all. Plus I
definitely need to run more as I was exhausted from getting off and
running (or attempting to run).

I learned so much at this ride. I rode my second loop with a guy named
Denis from Lethbridge and by the end I was riding on a loose rein and
was able to hold him back without pulling. And by working with my filly
a bit before the race I had total control at the shot gun start without
pulling as well. He was also kind enough to work with my horse after the
ride. It looked so easy but now that I'm attempting to keep doing at
home it is much more complicated!!

Also, I am excited about being able to go to the Old Dominion Ride. I
have asked a couple people if they want crew. I can't wait to see
Virginia!

Any ways, I'm off to ride and the sun is shining!
