RC: RE: Weight Divisions

Cookie,
If you were the only ones at the ride, you wouldn't have gotten full points.
Were you the only ones in your weight division, but with more than 11 riders
in the total ride? That's the only way you'd get full points.
The very small rides are already penalized. If all the rides in a region are
small, then every one in that region has the same advantage. It won't level
the playing field if the small rides die off, keeping some riders from
having enough rides to attend. Also, when placing in the top 10 of a 50
(because it has more entries) gives more points than the 100, the 100's will
really be hurt. Is this the direction we really want endurance to go?
Have any ride managers (besides me) considered we'll have to go back to
weighing every rider at every ride to make sure they're in the right
division? Even if they aren't AERC members, the division they enter will
affect almost everybody's weight division points. Looking quickly through
the years ride results so far, there are only very few rides large enough to
fill every division. And that assumes equal distribution of riders, which is
seldom the case.

I would like to see someone figure out if the "new" way of figuring would
actually have changed many of the year end results. If not, there is nothing
good that will come from changing, and probably some bad effects.

<We live in Wyoming where the rides are very small..Richard and I have
<been the only riders at some rides and gotten fulls points in our
<respective weight disvision! If overall points are based on 11 <riders so
should weight division points.
<We have known this for years go to small rides get all the points in
<your wieght division..you can finish last and get all the points. <The
<heavy weight division in the Mtn region has been easy to ride in for
<Richard and he has finished last on 50's and 100's and gotten all the
<points..not fair to riders who compete with alot of riders in their
<division on a 50 or 100.
<Will it cause riders not to attend the smaller rides, who knows,in the Mtn
region we don't have that many rides so you go to any ride within reasonable
distance from your home. I am sure other regions are like this too. The
only regions it could effect are the larger regions where they will get the
11 riders per division. Here the small rides may disappear.
Just remember whatever is done it's the same palying field for all ofus.
