RE: IAHA dues

Hi, I a past Director of IAHA and will attempt to answer your question.

You do not have to join a club to be a member of IAHA, however the basic
structure of IAHA revolves around clubs that are part of a Region which is
part of the National IAHA organization. The delegates [which are determined
by the number of members in club at the ratio of 1 per 50 members] to the
IAHA convention determine what types of memberships are offered and what the
rates are. There has been much debate over the years with always the same
results -- the delegates have voted to charge more for a direct membership
as a means of encouraging people to join clubs.

There is a basic organizational difference between IAHA and AERC. In AERC
there are no clubs and each member can vote on appropriate matters as
defined in our by-laws. In IAHA this voting power is divided between the
Board and delegates to convention based upon their by-laws. IAHA has
approximately 27,000 members, 18 Regions and 270 clubs, there are typically
450 delegates at convention in November.

You might look around to find a club that is oriented toward endurance
riding. We have one here in Texas called the Texas Arabian Distance Riders
Association. Check out http://www.tadra.org/ it is cheaper to join TADRA
than IAHA directly. We do two rides a year and have several members from OK.
