Re: Livestock Gaurd Dogs

Kim Wrote " the horses really need
an early warning system although I'm not sure a pyranees would be much of a
match for a mountain lion or bear! Our heeler seems to be pretty bold."
Kim we raise sheep , calves and have a dude string of horses on our ranch
here in montana . We also live at 6500 ft. elev. so needless to say there
are lion's, bears , wolves , coyotes and weekender dogs here at our place .
We also have 2 Akbash and 1 G. Pyrnees livestock guard dogs on "patrol " 24
hours a day .They will and do keep these animals at bay and away from your
livestock . Of course the prynees breed is the gentlest of all livestock
guard breeds while the akbash is the most aggressive .A good LGD will not
leave your animals no matter what ! That is their job ! And your right ,
their bark is what keeps most animals at bay ..but their is also no
shortage of fight in these dogs , even the pyrnees .
