RE: horse nervous around other large groups of horses

If I have a new horse or I'm planning on a mid pack ride, I just start after
the group has left. I avoid the adrenaline of the large group galloping
off, my horse isn't looking to catch up, he doesn't feel left behind (he
doesn't know he missed the start!) and we can just ride our own pace.
There's no rule that you have to leave at the start of the ride, try leaving
10-15 minutes behind the pack so that your horse isn't subjected to all the
excitement of the group. It won't make any difference at all in your
completion, but may make all the difference in your horse's excitement
level.

Subject: RC: horse nervous around other large groups of horses

I am thinking about entering my horse who is a thoroughbred in an endurance
ride this weekend. I am sort of worried about the large groups of horses
that might make him nervous. My daughter who is 9 is going with me and she
has a very reliable quiet horse that my horse likes to be with so that will
help. Any suggestions from other riders are appreciated. I think that a long
ride would be good for my horse and I just feel aprehensive at the start of
the ride if riders just take off and he feels left behind.
