Re: RC: How to stop the itching?

Hi, this is a relative newbie to ridecamp posting - as a short
introduction, I'm a limited distance rider from the UK, my Icelandic
mare Gola and I are just starting our third season and we've done up
to 40 miles in a day so far - aiming to do our first 50 soon and then
see whether we get any further than that...

I've just been away for a week, so I'm rather behind in catching up
with the digests, so sorry for picking up a topic again that was
probably already "dead" 40 digests ago!

Tori,

for your itchy horse - have you ever seen one of those specialist
sweetitch rugs? They cover the neck, belly and top part of the tail
and will let absolutely no fly whatsoever at the horse. They look
pretty ridiculous (the horse ends up looking like a sculpture by the
"wrapping artist" Christo) but they do seem to work well. Many people
with Icelandics here in Europe use them (Icelandics are quite prone to
sweetitch), and I know of a few horses who used to suffer badly from
sweetitch and who now show absolutely no symptoms and discomfort since
their owners bought one of these rugs.
The rugs come in a range of sizes and are made in Sweden - the
company's homepage is www.boett.com, as their retailer for the US they
list: SUNLAND RANCH
                             3675 Copper Crest Road
                             Olivenhaln, CA 92024

                             Fax: (1) 858 759 85 77
