RE: Horses in Yosemite?

Latest news:  We need your input and send to my email address.  Separately you will want to submit it to David Mihalic at the Yosemite National Park. I do not have his # but his assistant' email is: Laurel_Boyers@nps.gov  and it will get to him.

Well, George Cardinet, our President just received a fax from Superintendent David Mihalic and he suggested that we form the statements about what we want included in the Plan and submit it now.  We do not have our requests in the Plan (Amazing because we heretofore submitted it, but it is a whole new ball game and we must resubmit.) Forward to me what you would like to see.  From your statement, we need campsites so we do not have to trailer in and unload and remove trailers to 50 miles out of the park for a days ride.  We agree. We want campsite to accommodate the horses so we can ride those 800 miles of trails.  Submit any requests, in brief to me and we will forward.  This Sup seems to be on our side.

Nancy,

I read your note on ridecamp and also read about the plan in our local
newspaper.  My first thoughts were about trailering horses into the park and
if it would continue to be allowed.  In your letter you stated that letter
writing wasn't enough.  What else do you suggest as I have written letters
in the past.

Subject: RC: Horses in Yosemite?

This was quoted from todays Contra Costa Times by Mike Taugher, Times Staff Writer.  "The plan for Yosemite Valley was unveiled during a luncheon speech before the Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco on Monday, March 27.  The plan, which would take at least 10 years and $343 million to complete, calls for a more hiker and BICYCLE FRIENDLY Yosemite."

WHILE THIS PLAN IS DESIGNED TO ELIMINATE CARS FROM THE VALLEY - IT EMPHASIZES THE FACT THE ADMINISTRATION HAS PLANNED TO ELIMINATE HORSES FROM THE VALLEY AND WILL!

Under the heading of changes to Yosemite it lists the reduction of day use parking spaces in Valley from 1600 to 550.  It lists TO BE REMOVED:  Cascades Dam, three bridges, roads through Stoneman and Ahwanee Meadows; all day-use parking except at Yosemite Village; the superintendents house; COMMERCIAL STABLES;other buildings.

ALL OF THE MEETINGS, EVERYTHING WE DID TO STOP IT AND NO MATTER HOW MANY LETTERS WE WRITE.  IT SEEMS THAT THE TRADITIONAL USE OF THE HORSE IS IGNORED, FORGOTTEN AND DENIED.

AS DAVID MILHALIC SAID: "YOU ARE A VERY NARROW INTEREST GROUP."

I believe your response is required at this time. Letters are good but not enough.
