I've seen a couple of different adaptations for keeping doors open--you might 
want to discuss the problem with a place that manufactures or repairs 
trailers and see what they have to offer.

The sky hooks are good systems, but it also sounds to me like your mare does 
not really respect being tied and needs to get some remedial training about 
it at home on a solid wall or fence.  I like to tie to an inner tube that is 
attached high on a wall.
