Angie - I think you messed up your brakes - the newer trailers have a break-away emergency brake with a gel cell. There is a warning on my system that says their can be problems if that brake pin is pulled out while plugged in. My pin got pulled out once, but thankfully the trailer was unplugged so I plugged it back in and the normal braking is fine and from the information I have the break-away system should still be OK too. I'm sure the trailer repair people will correct me if this is wrong. You have now learned the hard way to triple check that everything is disconnected when you unhook as well as checking that everything is in place before you take off.
