Devils advocate: enteroliths! Someone I know feeds nothing but alfalfa
cubes for roughage and he has had to pay for three enterolith surgeries over
the
past four years out of his herd of 24. What's that, 12.5%? Also, his
horses are of the bored, pasture ornament, type. (Yes, halter bred
Arabians.)
So they become termites and chew everything in sight because the cubes
don't provide a long enough chew. If you wet them, I bet they consume them
even faster.
I bet there are a few other people that will pipe in about alfalfa for other
reasons!
