RE: Re: Equine dentist vs Vet?

Deb,
Here in Arizona, by law, only a veterinarian can perform procedures and
administer drugs to horses. Some vets get around this by being on-site and
bringing in dental specialists --a very expensive way to have teeth
corrected.

Some vets have taken the lead and become caring, proficient experts --no
pain, no blood, and no residual reactions.

I found one, Chuck Hoover in Tucson, who uses a high-speed Dremel with
flexible attachments for the front teeth and an air-compressor-driven
high-speed file for the back teeth. The file moves only one-quarter of an
inch back-and-forth at a time at about 12K/minute. Small amounts of drug
relaxed my horse quickly and the start to finish time was about 20 minutes.
Recovery was 45 minutes. My total cost was $135.

Good and affordable vets are sometimes hard to find. --Kathleen in Tucson
