Truck Suspension
A few months ago I asked Ridecamp for suggestions on how to beef up the
suspension of my F250. I purchased a 3/horse slant load, bumper pull
trailer that really lowered the rear end of my truck. I ended up taking the
suggestion of an acquaintance who has the same truck, a large horse trailer
and does brake and suspension work for a living. I had an extra leaf added
to the springs on each side in the rear. I did have to have longer shocks
installed, the existing U-bolts were plenty long enough. I had it done at a
truck specialty shop, Trucks America, that gave me the best price and do
this type of work on a frequent basis. It cost about $200 and was well worth
it!!! It really stiffened up the rear end, hardly drops at all when the
trailer is hitched. In addition I have an Equalizer hitch with anti-sway
bars. Now if I only had a bigger engine! (whine) Thought this may be of
interest to other Ridecampers who face the same thing as they move up to
bigger trailers. Bigger is Better!?!
