I don't know if they do this in other areas, but there are signs posted in
many of the areas where I ride that instruct mountain bikers to (among
other things), yield to equestrians, get off their bikes, and speak to the
rider.  There has also been some commercials lately that talk about trail
users and who should yield to whom -- at the end of these commercials they
always stress that everyone yields to equestrians (something I love to
hear!).  Hopefully people pay attention.
