When I still had my old ladies, I believe one of them did have a stroke
that caused partial paralysis on one side of her body for about a week, my
vet agreed given the symptoms, we never did any confirmatory tests due to
her age, cost, etc. The mare 'recovered', she was 35 at the time (papered
QH mare ), and lived to be 39. If the mare had been unable to eat, drink
and ambulate I would have euthanized her. As it was, you could tell that
she was having difficulty on one side, but she was alert, eating, drinking
and stumbling around. In her case the brain was able to reroute whatever
had been damaged and she was fine until she died.
KcA & Rose (who loved to tease the old ladies as a yearling) & Archie (who
thinks Rose is an old lady because she is 3 years older than he)
