A 16ish yr old TWH I was riding in Fairplex's warmup ring at a running
walk suddenly dropped to both her knees, launching both me and the 4
year old I was holding in front.

I caught the 4 year old, she never hit the dirt. The mare was later
diagnosed to have suffered a stroke, and was put down several days
later. She seemed ok immediately thereafter (and thence the 4 year old
had to ride a little longer, and stop wailing <g>) but deteriorated
throughout the next week.

That is the only stroke instance I've ever encountered.
