good training ride

Had a lovely training ride today on our stallion...I decided NO
conditioning efforts today, just fun and manners and all by himself. He
figured out about a mile from home that we were still going AWAY from home
and tried to turn around but gave in when I insisted. We had lots of good
things happen for despooking...didn't blink an eye when the guy at the
welding shop rattled his chain falls and made all kinds of noise but shied
at a corn husk that blew by him in front of said shop! Killer chipmunks
still make him flinch, too. We walked over big logs and went down trails
that have been blocked to ORVs...I like those trails but they require some
finesse in some places. We went in the water at the lake without buddies
present and even trotted along the shoreline. I had a Power Bar and he had
some nice dried old grass for our lunch stop. We argued some about leads
and once in awhile when I allowed a brief gallop (he loves to stretch those
legs!) we had to discuss mph but all in all, a very satisfying and
enjoyable ride. Especially so since my gelding seems quite p----- off at
me right now....not happy about new foals invading his territory or the
gelding I took to ride for a client and have sold already but is still
here. I think he is jealous and he is being a real jerk, knothead, creep
to me right now. So, it was nice to have a slow, fun ride!! Also worked
with those gorgeous little fillies of ours tonight....funny, but the one
that got the late and the least imprinting is the one I can walk up to out
in pasture and the one that I caught still in the sac is AWFUL! They both
enjoy stomping on my toes, of course. But they both had good short lessons
tonight...very smart. No pics yet cuz the ones I took didn't turn out the
way I would have liked....new ones to be developed soon. If that fails, I
guess I'll have to hire a photographer!! :) So.....here's hoping for more
50 degree days in northern Michigan!
