Re: Indian Thumb Print

Hi Roxanne

Here in South Africa we call the mark you describe "Mohammed's thumbprint".
Some people beleive that Mohammed (seen as a prophet by one of the middle
eastern religeous groups) checks each arabian foal prior to birth and if it
meets his approval he gives it a sacred thumbprint on the neck!
These marking were highly regarded by some bedouin tribes. The bedouins
beleived in all sorts of markings. eg. if an arabian had four white socks it
was to have a darker coloured "spot" or dot on the sock somewhere or it
indicated weak legs. If a horse was born with a white spot on the leg it was
bad luck, but a wheat ear (what we would call a whirl/cow lick - an oblong
patch of hair growing in the opposite direction) could counterbalance this
mark as it was considered a sign of good luck!

Go ahead and buy the mare, afterall she has the prophet Mohhammeds approval!
:-)
