2010 Convention Agenda

Inspire to have Balanced Hooves: Friday

An international speaker and clinician, Blake Brown, will present “Recognizing a Balanced Hoof” on Friday. Blake has been an instructor, farrier, consultant and teacher of balanced horse shoeing since 1969. He does extensive consulting throughout the United States, which also includes the U.S.E.F. Team of Endurance.

He was a key speaker at the 2005, 2007 and 2009 International Hoof Care Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio.

An overview of Blake’s presentation will include the following and more: common issues for lameness, recognizing proper hoof to pastern axis, anatomy, proper medial and lateral hoof balance, clues to recognize improper balance, discuss proper shoe length and expansion and the horses conformation and its effect on hoof growth.

Inspire to make Endurance Safer for our Horses: Friday

Dr Olin Balch will present the findings of the first AERC sponsored Research Summit. It will cover the fatality records of AERC from 2002 to 2008 and present the four findings of the research summit.

There will be a panel discussion after the presentation consisting of several ride veterinarians, ride managers and riders. Some of the recommendations of the Research Summit are controversial. Questions and comments from the audience will be welcomed. This discussion is very important and will help shape the future of PNER and AERC.

Inspire to be an Efficient Rider: Saturday

International clinician Peggy Cummings is a transformer, innovator and creator of exercises designed to help horse and human dance together, easily, efficiently and effectively.

Connected Riding will help you and your horse use your bodies more efficiently, ride with less pain and stress, bring more fun to your riding through the sensations of lightness and ease and become a proactive rider.

Peggy has worked with many endurance riders through the years, helping them discover riding with ease and lightness. Her first endurance ride she entered and won an 80 mile race, winning Best Condition! Proof positive there is an easier and more efficient way to “ride the miles” for better outcomes.

Be Inspired by the Arabian Silk Documentary: Saturday early morning

“A heart-warming and intriguing film inspects purity of the connection between horse and rider. It is poignant and inspiring, as you watch the bond strengthen into deep, touching friendship as they go through trial and triumph. The story follows Roger, an endurance horse, through his life of racing, and illuminates the powerful friendship between him and his rider, Jerry”. (Karen Chaton)
