Sultan Mizan Cup, formerly known as Sultan’s Cup Terengganu Endurance Challenge, adopts a brand new image this year with its new name and logo.

YAB Dato’ Seri Hj Ahmad Said explained that the state government wants to create a new brand identity for the event, branding the Sultan Mizan Cup THE most important event in Terengganu, and one of the top events in the country. Secondly, the name change is to reposition and profile the Sultan Mizan Cup as truly international and a world-class premier endurance event that is important for the region. Most importantly, it is to reflect Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s passion for the sport and his personal involvement in the event, which is his brainchild established to promote sports tourism in Terengganu.

The Sultan Mizan Cup will continue to highlight the heritage and traditions of Terengganu. It started last year where Songket, a Terengganu’s heritage and tradition, was featured. This year the theme is centred on the Coral, also a heritage and treasure of Terengganu. It was chosen to reflect the similarity with the horse; both are Nature’s treasures that need to be taken care of to ensure their survival; and both are vibrant and beautiful.

The organisers are expecting 90 riders from 15 countries to compete at the 120 km CEI 2* Sultan Mizan Cup. Riders have been invited from Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Chile, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, UAE, USA and Uruguay

In tandem with its growth and development, the Sultan Mizan Cup takes on a fresh look this year with more exciting activities and attractions.

Co-Chairman, Sultan Mizan Cup Organising Committee, YB Haji Rozi bin Mamat, said, “To grow and develop the event we need to create a stronger appeal to a wider audience, to encourage more people, particularly the young, to participate in the sport of endurance. To this end, we have planned activities to draw more visitors to the Sultan Mizan Cup. Included in the programme line-up are: a treasure hunt from Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu

International Endurance Park (TIEP), a horse parade in Kuala Terengganu and a live-size model horse painting competition for schools; and the Sultan Mizan Cup Carnival at TIEP will feature Pony Club Mounted Games Challenge, a gig night, a concert and fun and games for the family.”

Keeping in line with its development plan, the Sultan Mizan Cup will include an educational programme to help develop human capital in Terenggganu.

YAB Dato’ Seri Hj Ahmad Said informed, “Through the event, we would like to further develop the skills of the people of Terengganu to provide support for endurance events. This year we are organising the Sultan Mizan FEI Level I and II Course for International Candidate Judges, International Judges, Veterinarians and Technical Delegates. This will create a pool of skilled personnel for the sport of endurance in Terengganu.

“To further help build human capital in the state of Terengganu, we are organising an entrepreneurial development programme called Sultan Mizan Cup Gives Back. The objective of this programme is to develop the skill sets of SMEs in Terengganu, to equip SMEs with skills in basic management, financial management, marketing and business expansion. This will in turn help the business sector of Terengganu grow which will have an impact of the state’s economy.”

Following the launch of the Sultan Mizan Cup, prizes were presented by Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and YAB Dato’ Seri Hj Ahmad Said to the winners of the Malaysia-Thailand Open Endurance Challenge Trophy 2011.
