FORT HOWES ENDURANCE RIDE

Directions

From Billings: Take I-90 southeast to Crow Agency. After the Port of Entry, take the exit to the right to HWY 212 east to Broadus, this is also the exit for the Little Bighorn Battlefield. Turn left at the stop sign (going over the interstate), and continue on going through Busby, Lame Deer, and Ashland. Approximately 5 miles out of Ashland you will go down a steep hill, at the bottom of the hill will be a paved road taking off to the south (right). This is HWY 484; you will also see a sign that says Otter Creek Road and Fort Howes. Take this road until the pavement ends (about 21 miles), and then go an additional 3/4 mile to the ride site on the left hand side of the road (150 miles from Billings).

From Gillette: Take HWY 59 north to Broadus. The road will "T" at HWY 212, turn west (left) onto 212 and through the town of Broadus (the road will make a left-hand turn in town). Stay on HWY 212 for approximately 44 miles. You will see a turn off to the left marked HWY 484, Otter Creek and Fort Howes; this is the only paved road taking off to the left. Take this road until the pavement ends (about 21 miles), and then go an additional 3/4 mile to the ride site on the left hand side of the road (120 miles from Gillette).

From Miles City: Take HWY 59 south to Broadus. The road will end at HWY 212, turn west (right) onto HWY 212 and stay on HWY 212 for approximately 44 miles. You will see a turn off to the left marked HWY 484, Otter Creek and Fort Howes; this is the only paved road taking off to the left. Take this road until the pavement ends (about 21 miles), and then go an additional 3/4 mile to the ride site on the left hand side of the road (140 miles from Miles City).

From Sheridan: From the Port Of Entry in Sheridan, take HWY 314 northeast towards Decker, Montana. Stay on this road past Decker, Decker Coal, Spring Creek Coal, and the Kirby Bar. The road will "T" at HWY 212. Turn east (right) towards Busby. Go through Busby, Lame Deer, and Ashland. Approximately 5 miles out of Ashland you will go down a steep hill, at the bottom of the hill will be a paved road taking off to the south (right). This is HWY 484; you will also see a sign that says Otter Creek Road and Fort Howes. Take this road until the pavement ends (about 21 miles), and then go an additional 3/4 mile to the ride site on the left hand side of the road (120 miles from Sheridan).

From South Dakota: Take HWY 212 west out of Belle Fourche to Broadus. You will go through the town of Broadus, making a left hand turn in town at the flashing light. Stay on HWY 212 for approximately 44 miles. You will see a turn off to the left marked HWY 484, Otter Creek and Fort Howes; this is the only paved road taking off to the left. Take this road until the pavement ends (about 21 miles), and then go an additional 3/4 mile to the ride site on the left hand side of the road (140 miles from Belle Fourche).

From Colorado: Take I-25 north to Douglas, from there take HWY 59 north through Bill, Wyoming to Gillette. Take HWY 59 north to Broadus. The road will "T" at HWY 212, turn west (left) onto 212 and through the town of Broadus (the road will make a left-hand turn in town). Stay on HWY 212 for approximately 44 miles. You will see a turn off to the left marked HWY 484, Otter Creek and Fort Howes; this is the only paved road taking off to the left. Take this road until the pavement ends (about 21 miles), and then go an additional 3/4 mile to the ride site on the left hand side of the road (215 miles from Douglas going this way). You can also go to Sheridan and come that way.

FOOD, LODGING AND OTHER INFO:
Gas, food, and lodging in Ashland is limited. There are 2 grocery stores on the east end of town-Green's and the Ashland Merc. On the west end of town there are two gas/convenience stores-The Western Pump and the Cheyenne Depo. None of these businesses are open very late. Ashland has two restaurants-The Hitching Post Café and The Justus on the east end of town. There is also the Western 8 Motel on the west end of town if you need it. Broadus has one grocery store and a gas station in the middle of town. There are several restaurants and a couple hotels.
