I must add my .02 
I had a borrowed pony who was a wonderful little thing generally.  She did have her moments, but normally she was just a good as any horse.  I think a lot of it has to do with how they are raised and handled at a young age.  I am no expert mind you, but I had a wonderful experience with this pony who was very affectionate.  If you can find the right one ( it ain't easy! ) they can be quite nice.  By the way she was a Shetland pony....good luck to all who deal with the feisty stubborn ones out there.  There is still hope! LOL!!!
