With the spread of the HYPP gene in the QH pool, I have been told that one
of the ways to manage it is the total elimination of alfalfa from the horses
diet. Since breeders are having to manage these horses differently, they
are managing all of their horses differently and one breeder told me that
they are having fewer tie up problems in all of their horses. Now, I don't
know if this is just one breeder and one vet or if there is some scientific
basis in this, or if it is valid how much of it relates to muscle type, but
it might bear some looking at if you have tying up problems.
