Barbara - remember Paul's mare, Miss Etta (Front Row's Sharife)?
Appy/QH/TB/Arab cross.  About 1/4 of each.  This mare was about the same
as yours for tying up.  Kerry Ridgeway used her as one of the early test
horses for his tying up research.  Our maintenance was about the same as
yours - she absolutely had to be moving all the time, no confinement or
else suffer the consequences.  Kerry had us feed Etta various
"experimental & controversial" things, which are commonplace nowadays.
It all did help - her first try at Tevis she tied up going up out of
Squaw (that was in the olden days when we started at Squaw) but the next
year on Kerry's program, she completed Tevis.  Unfortunately she picked
up her pattern again after a year or more and we finally just retired
her.  Her offspring have not had any tying up problems so far (knock on
wood) in endurance or competitive work, but then they all are over 50%
Arabian.  Lif
