HR Recovery as fitness Criteria

k s swigart katswig@earthlink.net
I have a horse that the more tired she gets, the
faster her heartrate "recovers."

I had a horse that "recovered" between the in gate and the P&R
person, no matter how tired he was.

It makes absolutely no sense to measure the fitness
of these horses based on their heartrates, or their recovery
rates.

My own experience is that heartrate, and heart rate recovery has
much more to do with how hot a horse is rather than how tired
a horse is. However, measuring heat buildup inside a horse may
be meaningful in determining its fitness to continue.
