Cleaning the Sheath

Well, this may totally off subject, but I just thought
I'd post it anyway.

Yesterday, my family was all working together, getting
the house ready for Christmas. I looked out the window
and saw Thunder standing at the farth south end of the
pasture, all by himself. Being the horse owner that I
am, I ran through the nearest gate and walked up to
him. He just turned around and looked at me, but had a
dull look to his eyes. They weren't his usually firey
self.

Finally had him tied and did a thorough check over
body. Didn't seem to be soar or stiff at all. He'd
eaten his breakfast fine. I trotted him out, no prob.
Well, as he stood there, he got relaxed, and his
sheath dropped completely, easy for me to clean. I've
never had a problem with this.

So, just got out the luke warm water, rags, and good
old hands. After it was clean enough, and all the
excess junk had been cleared (boy does that yellow
paste build up, like ear wax!!) I turned him back out
into the pasture. He was fine.

So, walked back up through the field, and Sam just
happened to be standing there, totally, unterly
relaxed, and his sheath was dropped as well. Just
stood there like it was no big deal at all while I
removed all the flakes, etc. Some may think this is
disgusting, and run away screaming, others may think I
actually enjoy this in a perverted way. I've had both
happen.

All you can do is just clean them, and your horse
usually does feel better, and smell better too. Think
of it clinically. If you have a problem with handling
anything like it, and the junk is built up really bad,
squirt some baby oil up into the pouch area and let is
sit for a while. It loosens all the "wax" up and makes
it easier to remove. You may have to work with your
horse a bit on being touched there. I've been kicked
before, its a "touchy" area, LOL!

Have Fun!! ;-)

=====
To My Horses: Horses are my life, horses are me, horses are the answer, the key. Without them I'd perish, no friends, no life with which to live. Them, always will I cherish, their love, and what they give. Horses are my life, horses are my way. And never will the day come, that I'd throw one way. They come, and go like the weather, but leave a mark in my heart that will stay forever. My boys, I love! ~Kelsey
