Oat hay

If the values of oat hay were discussed in the past, I must have missed it so 
please bare with me.  I have a friend that feeds oat hay to his crew, and 
they do great.  Could I get some opinions on oat hay and the distance horse?  
This hay still has the oat heads attached, and it has a light mixture of 
alfalfa.
