As in "respect your opponent"--nothing to do with the shallow "respect" based 
on emotion being given and taken away with such perfidity here. The meaning 
of that sentence, which I thought perfectly clear to any literate person, was 
a warning to come to battle armed. Only a fool, or a masochist, would not. 

I seek no personal respect from anyone. I know who and what I am and am 
content, and stuck, with that.  Respect from others concerning my thoughts, 
my words, or my actions, is completely irrelevant to my life. I seek no one's 
approval and fear no one's disapproval. There is one single, selfish reason 
why I participate in this forum, and that is to learn from those with 
different experiences and bits of knowledge than mine. 

Verbal combat is simply sport, mental exercise. Keeps my mind reasonably 
sharp. If anyone wants to joust in that arena, I'm happy to oblige as well. 
And I have a healthy respect for the implements brought to the 
battleground--my respect for the person is, again, irrelevant.
