. I have tried to keep up with

I hate to see people get discouraged by Tom's loving to stroke everybody's
fur the wrong way. I'm learning a lot and the sense I get of Mr. Ivers is
that he is one crotchety old codger who gets some of his best fun out of
provoking people. I've had some uncles like that, and once you figure that
they're pushing your buttons and relax about the pokes, you can enjoy just
listening and learning....and the fact is that they like getting poked back,
but it really is meant in some twisted sense of fun and friendliness. As I
recall, these were the guys that hogged the best easy chairs at the family
get togethers, made everyone run around getting them beer, and harrassed the
&*%$ out of everyone they could, but their feelings actually were hurt if
you took it seriously. They were generally known collectively as the
Geezers, the Reprobates, the Codgers, etc. and laughed when they heard the
label. Have to admit that I liked them a lot more than the sweet
ones....and their stories were a whole lot better.

Hope you're laughing, ti.
