more on timing

As both Tom AND Susan have suggested, timing is
everything, and low amounts fed more consistently do much more
for the horse.
But this is also in keeping with the fact that there IS that colonic
reserve
and the ongoing metabolism of VFA's and fats, so that the carbs
are steadily
adding TO somthing else that is going on.

OK, this discussion got started because a number of fit, not
overridden, "well-managed", veterans of speed lost their "go" in SC.
They had good weather, flat going, albeit sand, and plenty of water
opportunities. Maybe I am the only person who sees the
significance of having 3 horses do the same thing, at about the
same distance. I saw 5 horses do the same thing at about the
same distance on a 50 in October. Either all of these riders are
doing the same thing wrong OR some factor at the ride is causing
this. The only common denominator is longer hold times. I am
very much for longer hold times, but perhaps we riders need to
know what metabolic "thing" changes so we can adjust our
routines. Or, all of this was just coincidence. So what say you
guys, would standing around for an hour, repeatedly, during
stressful exercise cause metabolic confusion?
