I have never used a GPS unit in the field myself; however, I was provided
some "raw" GPS data on a system of trails at the DeSoto National Forest and
was able to determine from this the mileages for various portions of the
trails.  These trails were used for the first Biloxi Bash NATRC ride last
spring.  Many riders reported that the stated mileages seemed extremely
accurate (especially for a first-time ride).
