Re: Question about Arab Prices in Cal

Hi Louisa,
I live in Southern Oregon, just on the California border. Anderson, Ca. is
about 100 miles form here (I think, more or less). If you look up Redding on
your Atlas, Anderson should be fairly close. I have two sweepstakes
nominated fillies (grey) with excellent blood lines and I doubt that I could
get anywhere close to $5000 for them. One is 3/4 Arab out of a champion
National Show Horse mom and a National halter champion Arabian sire. In
April she will be five years old. She was imprinted right here at my place
and handled gently with lots of Perelli work. She has excellent conformation
and great bone and is a horse of substance. She is broke to ride trail,
crosses bridges, trailers like a dream, and has done two limited distance
rides. I used her to ribbon trails and to clear trails and she is calm and
quiet when it is needed. She is often ridden by thirteen year old girls (who
are good riders). She now is doing training level one and two dressage. A
friendly, secure, fun little girl. When I sell her, (if I can find the
perfect home), I will probably want to get $3500 to $4000 for her, depending
on how she is doing with dressage and whether she does any 50 milers next
year.

My other filly ( rose grey) is two years old, full Arab, sweepstakes
nominated, absolutely classic head and good bone with light, suspended
strides. She was born here, imprinted, Perelli ground training, loads,
clips, lunges with a saddle with stirrups dangling, absolutely sure of
herself and loves people. Already14 hands, she will Probably get to 15 hands
or so. She goes out with me on trail rides and follows along and enjoys it
all. Of course at her age she is not broke to ride. So when and if I find
the right home, I probably would have a hard time getting $2500 to $3000 for
her. After she is broke to ride and depending on where in her training she
is when I sell her, I could probably expect to get $3500 to $4000.
Now, I just described these to you for comparison sake. Around here,
untrained arabs go for about $1000 to $2500. Sometimes much less and of
course sometimes more, but not very often. I understand that in Northern
California, (San Francisco or Auburn, horses fetch a higher price
sometimes.) If this helps at all, great. If not, at least you got one
response.(simile). Have you looked in the Endurance News? The classifieds
often have Pintos listed and you could get a lead on breeders and query them
about prices for Pinto/Arab babies. Good luck in your pursuits.
