question about mares in heat

For those of you with the years of experience I don't have....is it
possible that a mare in foal might continue to exhibit signs of heat with
frequent exposure to a stallion? We bred my sister's mare in April. She
missed one heat cycle, went on a ride and subsequently came into heat
again. We assumed she had overheated at the ride (it was the 2 p.m. LD
ride) and reabsorbed the foal IF she had taken in the first place. She has
since exhibited signs of heat whenever she sees our stallion (we live next
door and ride together frequently)...no regularity at all. My sister
swears she looks pregnant...I don't look at the mare on a daily basis so am
not sure what I think. She can't afford an ultrasound right now (I am
tempted to pay for it myself cuz she is driving me crazy!!) so we can't say
for sure! I just wondered if it was possible. If someone out there thinks
it might be, maybe I'll go ahead and pay for an ultrasound but then again,
we can save the money and just see if she has a foal next spring!! :)
Thanks, guys!! :)
