8" per 1000 lb

I went out yesterday & measured some cannon bones, but didn't think to
correlate it with weight.  I just was doing height - I kind of figured
that weight can vary, but once a horse is done growing, height won't.  I
came up with the following (these measurements were at the request of
someone somewhat interested in purchase):

Sire = Ben Nasrif (14.3 hands, probably 900 lb right now) cannon right
below knee = 8 1/2"
Daughter Rita (13.3 hands, 3 y.o.) cannon = 7 1/2"
Daughter Tess (14.2+ hands, 5 y.o..) 7 3/4"
Daughter Kelsey (14.3 hands, 10 y.o..) 7 3/4"
Son Koko (14.1+ hands, 2 y.o..) 8+"
Desperado V daughter, 8 y.o.., 15 hands) 7 3/4"

This would be more interesting info if I had measured the moms' cannons,
but I didn't.  2 of the dams are dead, one's here & I will measure her
tomorrow, and another lives an hour away.

I did the resting pulse too, and found that the youngest & oldest mares
had the highest resting pulses (40 bpm & 42 bpm respectively) and
everyone else was in the 28 - 36 bpm range.  For what it's worth, these
horses are living at 7000+' altitude & are running on 70+ acres, some of
which is very steep.

I found this to be all very interesting, although I'm not sure how
useful it all is aside from general information.  But I recommend that
everyone goes out & finds out how your horses measure up!  Lif
