Coggins test and strangles

I've ridden in Kentucky all my life and never would have guessed that there was
anyone out there the didn't know what a Coggins was. We are trying to pass a
law this next year that would require one ( a negative Coggins test) just to
sell a horse to another individual. I think it's a very good idea. I wouldn't
dream of buying a horse that didn't have negative papers. At our rides most of
the time these are checked as you enter and the guy 's that check them have
guns.

I'm currently treating my young gelding for a respiratory infection of some
type, havn't detected any swelling. If it is Strangles I'll nip it before it
gets bad. Injecting him with 20 cc's
of Procane Penicillin twice a day 60 cc's in the last 24 hours and dropping off
to 10 cc's AM and 20 cc's PM. I also have a 10 cc Banimine shot ready just in
case he gets impacted from the Penicillin killing off his gut bacteria. Will
also feed him Fastback to get the bacteria back up to noraml again. I hope
everyone else is having better luck.
