Re: Wedge pads

Judy Long julong@cisco.com

I've used one wedge pad on the LF of my Appaloosa
gelding Warpaint for about 7 years. The LF tends
to splay out more than the right and get an
under-run heel. His RF is more club-like with a
taller heel. Using the wedge pad ends up making
his feet more like each other.

We have been doing a "Natural Balance" style shoeing
on him for 2 1/2 years now. He has the breakover set
to be about 1 1/4 inches in front of the frog and
has his toes squared off. Although I am not addressing
the same issue that the original poster is, Warpaint
has not had a problem with the LF heel getting crushed
by the wedge pad. I usually have him shod about every
6 weeks. The uneven feet are definitely something that
I have to keep a very close eye on.
