This is probably a pretty flammable response (and I SWORE I wasn't going to 
get flamed ever, ever again).  But......I just think it looks bad to see a 
really big person on a little horse.  There, I said it.  It just does.  I was 
at a ride last weekend and this huge guy (about 6'2" I think -- I didn't have 
the guts to ask) was riding a slightly built 14.3 arab.... it was not an 
attractive picture.   The horse did finish the ride (30 miles) just fine.  
Not saying they can't do it, it just looks bad (to me).  I was dying to check 
that horse's back after the ride, but like I said, I'm gutless.  All that 
being said, I don't think true ponies look as strange as little Arabs do with 
taller people on them.  So, probably the "substance" issue is more important 
than the height.  Also, I'm not saying we need to go to the other extreme of 
riding giraffes like Howard does  :)
