David, I sent this to you personally, but after reading your reply to
Heidi on ridecamp, I decided to post this as well with some
modifications.

(David is wondering why LD miles accumulate and are recorded separate
from endurance miles and why they don't just all get added up together.)

There are different strokes for different folks. (Different
organizations for folks with different reasons to belong to them.) The
voting membership of any organization determines and shapes the goals of
the organization. 

I think that an organization can spread itself too thin by trying to be
too much to too many people. (Keeping track of mileage takes people and
energy -- ask IAHA!)

If you're a member of AERC you could perhaps try to get the membership
behind you on this one and change the way miles are tallied.

Or you could join any of the numerous sport horse or breed organizations
that offer awards for competitive miles no matter how you get them.
