Down here this is not the open range.  They have to deal with brush,
swamp and rattlers. They don't want to have to ride in all sorts of
places they can't see what they are getting into.  They herd cows with
whips.  The crack of the whip is how they got their name "FL cracker." 
Contrary to popular belief by tourist and other yankees, they are still
a thriving breed.
