Thanks for the Hardware Help

Just wanted to thank everyone in general for the suggestions on barn
hardware. I found really substantial door latches and more made by National
Hardware at the Culpepper Farmer's Co-op. One of my favorite stores, who
needs a mall! These are the latches with a spring to pull the latch back out
of the way when opened so your horse won't catch a hip as it goes thru the
door.

One person suggested that I not use solid wood doors at all, hang pipe
gates instead to improve air circulation. I've seen several horses hurt by
putting legs thru pipe gate when standing and laying down then fighting with
the gate to get free. Also seen a few race horses bang their legs up when
their legs go thru the doorway under a stall guard. So until I can afford
full length stall gates (mesh type) I'll use stall guards and a closed lower
door if I have to shut a horse in for any prolonged period. Since one stall
is a double 12' x24' stall with one 12' side open to the "mud" corral and a
double dutch door that opens at the other end to a field, , well this stall
will have plenty of ventilation. The other 12' x12' stall isn't a run-in but
has interior and exterior doors also. Besides, my horses will have spotless
stalls doncha know! Thanks for all the suggestions. The barn is nearly done
and it has the purtiest hunter green roof. I think I'm in love!
