Trail/distance riding

Hi, I've been interested in endurance riding for sometime.  I had planned to pursue the adventure when I retired.  Now that I am working I am not sure about being strong enough for Endurance riding so I would like information just on distance riding for pleasure. Is there anyone out there who would care to give me some pointers?
