Re: RC: Update on Dorika's sesamoid

Maryanne, yes, we were all saddened to hear about the tragic Egypt Air crash
this morning. Our prayers are with families of those who were lost.

As to Dorika's sesamoid--just thought you might find my experience with my
old foundation stallion heartening. We managed him very conservatively (he
was 16 when he suffered a very severe basilar sesamoid fracture) and just
figured that we would be happy to have him as a pasture-sound breeding
stallion. He did his first 50 14 months after the fracture, and went on the
following year (at age 18) to Top Ten five 50's, including winning the last
one. I followed the fracture radiographically for almost 4 years, and it
never did calcify--but apparently the fibrous union was plenty to sustain a
considerable work load and stay sound. He died of an unrelated problem 7
years later.
