We just had an unusual reaction to a new bag of beet pulp - thought I'd see if anybody else had seen anything like this. I brought three horses in from pasture for extras, they all got the same hay, LMF and vitamins, but only two of them got a bucket of shredded beet pulp (a new bag). The next morning, the two with the beet pulp had swelling around their throat latch area, and onto their cheeks. No temp, normal pulse, everything seemed fine, they acted fine, just swelling. It went down throughout the day, and by late afternoon, all was well. My guess is there was something else that got shredded in with the beet pulp, but I'm looking for other input. Any ideas out there? I won't be using that bag, and am considering taking it bag to the feed store to let them know it might have been impure or tainted in some way. Thanks, Laura (and my "chipmunk" ponies) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
